Two of our group members said that they experienced the highest level of love from their mothers. One of them shared how who during his young age in school how the mother made sure that him and his siblings got the best education. he added that she not only provided for them the basic needs but also the best things which boost the esteem of children such as clothes shoes among other things. Due to this manifestation of love from the mother, he wished that the mother keeps in good health and lives longer. The other member said he lacked words to explain the love he got from his mother who has been everything to him. Being moved by this love, he wished his mother all the best to live forever.
Two other members of the group said that the highest experience of love they got from the community. One of them said that the community he has been finding himself, gives him the meaning of life. He said that he grew from a village where he was brought up by his grandmother since the parents where working somewhere else. When he went to college he was ashamed of himself because he could not express himself in good English. However, the friends and school community helped and encouraged him to speak English frequently. At the end of the day he found himself being able to express himself well and also being in apposition of doing very good in other subjects. He loves his grandmother deeply and wishes her good health. He also wishes the members of the communities he has passed all the best. The other member said that after the death of his parents, he saw life as meaningless and dropped from school. After some years, as he was working one of the community members where he was working who was the headteacher of the nearby school encouraged and helped him to go back to school. When he went back to school he found the school community so supporting that it helped him to understand the meaning of life hence discovering his hidden dream to become someone in the future. He loves his grandmother who took care of them after his parents passed away deeply. He wishes that she lives long. He also prays for the community that gave him the meaning of life and wishes them all the best.
Another member said that the highest degree of love he experienced is from one of his best friend who was from a well-to-do family. He explained that during their stay in the boarding school, his parents were not able to bring him many and good things as the parents of his classmate used to do. Noticing this situation, his friend used to share with him what his parents brought. They shared not only food but other things such clothes and shoes. He loved his friend deeply because he says if it were not for him, he could not be who he is today. That the parents of this friend of his have passed away, he prays for him and wishes that he lives a good life and succeeds in what he does.
Comments: We noted how amazing love is. For instance, when someone very dear to you is about to die you want to be there; to be be with him or her; not wanting to separate with each other; wanting to show more love. This shows that Love is eternal and innate in all human beings. Love is part and parcel of our humanity. It is human to be loving and lovable. Therefore our love for each other should be unconditional and unlimited. As human beings we should transcend our love and love as God loves.

“Love in human beings desires eternity”
By Chilufya Mukuka
Love is essential to human growth and brings to light the transcendental aspect in them love of God. Love is experienced from within families and friends. From the group sharing, it was shared the feeling of security and trust. Additionally, there is a feeling of belonging that portrays the love of God for man. The feeling of being loved by someone outside the family and being appreciated was not lacking from the discussion. As the sharing went on, there was the atmosphere of re-living the whole loving experience encountered by the person affect. The diversity of childhood experiences brought to light the possibility of taking love for granted as experienced in some case, e.g. pampering love of the father, being born and brought up only after five year the sister is born and insecurity comes in.
Underneath these experiences was the fact that love wishes to transcend into eternity as the person loving wishes the other person to ‘live forever’ (Class notes). The whole idea of love makes the person alive again for it is this very love that makes a person what the person is. The experience of love in the life of a person makes him/her to share in the possibility of eternity or the desire to live forever. As one of the members shared, this feeling of love makes one want to let go of the beloved while at the same time wanting to possess; letting go becomes a great challenge as it bring with it the idea of immortality. In love (one member said), there is a necessary need to seek the wellbeing of the other well at the same time finding this a source of the person’s own life.

Question 3: how have you experienced “ love” in your life? Where and when? Do you love someone deeply? Ultimately what do you wish him or her and your relationship?
From the sharing it was quite evident that many people have received love in their lives. He experiences of having received love revolved around the family set up. Many people have recievd love from their parents and particularly mothers. This is due to the care they give us right from our infacncy. Mothers always understand our feelings. Those who happen to be the last born witnessed care and support from other brothers and sisters. Many have also received love from close friends with whom they have shared life with especially growing up together from childhood. We continue to receive this love although it may not be communicated verbally but we know that it is certainly there.
In response to the love received we have found ourselves loving deeply in return. We are love deeply our parents, brothers and sisters and friends with whom we have shared lives with thus becoming part of each other’s history. When love is genuine, we wish the people we love happy lives and best things in life; we wish our relationship to last for ever.
“ Love and desires eternity”
If you love someone you can’t wish bad thing for that person but always wish for that person the best. Some of us have lost our dear ones and we feel consoled by the love that we shared, we feel compelled to hope that we shall meet once more and continue for where we left (although we still love them even at present). When we are in love we would like the love to continue without any interruption although we know that we will never avoid departure especially when it comes to the issue of mortality. But we continue to hold dear in our hearts the love we have given and received.
